Every road leads to the same village. What changes is how you get there.
Immersion takes place inside a built Viking village in east Iceland, a five-hour drive from Reykjavík. Five days of music, nature and community, in October, when the nights are already long enough for the aurora to appear over the stage.
The choice that defines the trip is made before you leave home: cross Iceland in a motorhome, with the road as part of the festival, or arrive and find your accommodation ready inside the village. Two journeys, one destination.
Two ways to go
The road, or the village ready when you arrive.
There is no right way to do Immersion. One route begins days earlier, with the vehicle becoming your home. The other begins the moment you cross the village palisade.
The road
A motorhome or camper hired in Reykjavík. The five hours east become the opening chapter, with waterfalls and glaciers along the way. Inside the festival the vehicle is your home, in dedicated parking with power and waste disposal.
Ready when you arrive
A glass dome, Aurora Hut, trailer or private room, set up inside the village before you land. Arrive, unpack and walk into the festival.
What October gives you
Bathrooms and hot showers for every participant, and nights long enough to see the aurora from bed, when the sky plays along.
The artistic side
Six environments, a thousand people, and no name at the top of the bill.
Immersion does not lead with a line-up, and that is a position rather than an oversight. The curation comes from a community that ran gatherings in thirteen countries across five continents before this first festival edition, and it is guided by intention rather than trend. The base is electronic music and its more fluid edges: from minimal to house, through to the frankly experimental.
Capacity is one thousand guests. That number changes everything else.

Expeditions
Iceland as the experience
Small groups with local specialists, leaving from the Viking Café and returning to the village, on several days of the festival. Glacier, coast and what you only reach with someone who lives there.

A chef’s dinner
Icelandic chef Bjarki Snær Þorsteinsson, formerly of the national culinary team, signs intimate dinners during the festival, each course telling a part of the landscape.

The Viking village was built at full scale as a set for historical productions, near Höfn. For five days it becomes the entire festival.

The five hours
The road east, stop by stop.
The south coast route is the most beautiful stretch in Iceland, and it turns the crossing into two days rather than half of one. Anyone driving sleeps along the way; anyone flying east can do the same route after the festival.
Skógafoss
Sixty metres of falling water and a stairway up the side, with the river running on above.
Reynisfjara
The black sand beach at Vík, with the basalt columns and a sea you do not go into.
Jökulsárlón
The glacial lagoon with icebergs adrift, and Diamond Beach across the road.
Vestrahorn
The jagged mountain over the black sand at Stokksnes, already in the east.
