Rio Open

The biggest tennis tournament in South America, the week after Carnival.

The year the tournament doubled in size.

The Rio Open is the only ATP 500 in South America and the only clay court event on the main calendar across the continent. It is played at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Gavea, with Corcovado on one side and the lagoon on the other, on one of the few courts in the world where the view competes with the match.

In 2027 the tournament moves within the Jockey itself, to the Pião do Prado, and grows from 40,000 to 67,000 square metres. Centre court goes to 9,500 seats, 54 per cent more. Court 1 more than doubles, to 2,500. Covered areas triple. In practice it is a different tournament, and anyone buying now is buying a venue nobody has tested yet.

The tournament runs nine days. What changes between one ticket and another is not only the seat, it is the day and the hour the match is played.

Nine thousand five hundred seats after the expansion. This is where the seeds come in from the last sixteen, and where both finals are played, on Saturday and Sunday.

First week for anyone who wants a lot of tennis for little. Friday the 19th, Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st for anyone who wants to see who is left.

The draw only closes between December and January, but two names are announced and they set the level of this edition.

The clay at the Jockey is the only one on the main calendar in South America. Players who do well here tend to go deep at Roland-Garros.

Boxes and hospitality never join that queue. They are negotiated directly with the tournament, which is how we work.

The draw can change until it is made. A player withdrawing gives no right to a refund, which is the tour rule.
