Carneiros spends the year in silence. In the last week of December, it becomes the most international beach festival in Brazil.
The beach is in Tamandaré, about an hour and a half from Recife. The little chapel of São Benedito on the sand, the natural pools at low tide and the Formoso river meeting the sea make the picture the whole country knows.
Between 26 December and 2 January, Réveillon Carneiros builds five themed nights by the sea, with an international electronic line-up and names from Brazilian music. New Year's night runs from eight in the evening to eight in the morning.
What Carneiros lacks is good houses. There are few, the best sit by the river or facing the sea, and they go before the tickets do.
