Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro
The biggest midnight on earth, seen from above the crowd.
The house reading
Copacabana holds two and a half million people on its sand. The question is where you watch from.
At midnight, barges at sea light twelve minutes of fireworks over the whole beach, and Copacabana becomes a single toast in white. It is the biggest New Year party on the planet, and it happens on the sand, for anyone who turns up.
What changes the night is where you watch it from: the Copacabana Palace party with the fireworks in front of the terrace, a rooftop on Avenida Atlântica, a suite facing the sea or a boat anchored off the beach. With the right logistics you can do two.
Three things decide the night: a sea-facing suite, tickets for the hotel parties and the boat for midnight.
