Joá is fifteen minutes from Leblon and feels like another state.
The neighbourhood sits on the cliffs between São Conrado and Barra, with no shops, no boardwalk and almost no traffic. Yndu is inside a gated community with 24-hour security, on three floors that follow the slope down towards the water. From the pool, the Pedra da Gávea closes the frame on the left and the Atlantic takes the rest.
The top floor is one open room: living, kitchen and dining under a timber ceiling that rises to the roof, opening entirely onto the deck and the pool. It is where the house happens, and where nobody is left alone while someone cooks.
The five suites sit on the floors below, each with its own view of the sea and of the vertical garden that runs along the spa, more than eighteen hundred plants and a waterfall shower. A lift connects all three floors, which changes the week for anyone travelling with children or with their parents.
The finishes are metal, glass and timber, and the house is automated throughout. What stays with you afterwards is not the finishes: it is the hour when the sun hits the edge of the pool and nobody wants to leave for dinner.
